The next major version of pianoscope will come with many time-based charts in this tradition, including inharmonicity against time, partial frequency against time, partial amplitudes against time etc.

Excited that there's a new major version on the horizon!

Will the app help make sense of the above graphs? Or will they just be for informative/entertainment purposes only?

What I like about freeze frame is that you don't really have to understand graphs or FT or anything. All you have to do is tune your unison so that you hit the target.

Is there a way to benefit from the above graphs without having to interpret them? The math and details are really not interesting to me... all I want is a great tuning.

Yes, I am working hard on version 3. I am hoping to get a beta version ready until the end of summer. The main new feature will be a new tuning curve algorithm which will improve the sound of many instrument classes and a new way to manually adjust tuning curves. There will also be improvements to the partial display and the freeze function. And it will have a new function to save all your settings under a name and to quickly switch between them via the toolbar. This will also enable you to export your settings from one device to another.
I am not sure if the charts will make the cut for 3.0 but if not they will be in there soon after. They are not meant for tuning work but for visualising the specifics of an instrument. Stay tuned!

Pianoscope 3 will come with a feature that allows you to use a multi-channel audio interface to connect up to eight microphones, although 4 should be plenty. You can then attach four contact mics to different places on the soundboard, like an ECG for pianos. Pianoscope can then analyse the sound from every microphone individually and performs advanced statistics on the measured partials. In my experiments this is working very nicely with false beats in the treble.

Is it 4 mics specifically that will be needed or is this configurable... would I get a benefit from 2 mics? Can the mic placements be random? I ask because I can barely access the soundboard on my upright and from one side only.

navindra I made it configurable so that you can choose how many channels / mics you want to use. You can place the mics where you want. I am still experimenting what is giving the best results.
