Has anyone used the tone generator to tune the whole piano, perhaps in ‘headless mode’?
Fantastic feature for educational purposes, I’m wondering if there’d be a practical use case for fine tuning.
Tuning with an ETD display we’re always limited at some point near 0 cents to refine our pitch setting accuracy, even if this is negligible for the individual note in question cumulative errors do occur (0.1 flat here, 0.1 sharp there etc) the tone of the piano is complex as well so pitch can fluctuate throughout the tone envelope.
I’m wondering if for the same reasons we tune unisons by ear greater accuracy could be achieved by using the tone generator to set our pitch - either with an external speaker or in ear headphones.
Has anyone tried this? Maybe it’s not possible to hear the unison completely if an external tone generator is playing…
Just a thought. As always with tuning it’s easy to focus on perfection when the bigger picture of good tuning and aural skills need to be in our minds.
Just like setting unisons it could become a very quick and accurate tool but perhaps I’m missing something obvious.
I suppose ideally you’d need a very soft tone generator on in ear monitors with enough ambient sound to hear the full tone of the piano notes.
