TestFlight beta of pianoscope 2.6

I lose my settings (Freeze, Textual Display, Header, etc) going to the Beta. It would be nice to persist that somewhere.

It would be really awesome if I could measure the average Concert Pitch over a specific set of notes (as opposed to a single note or the set of notes pianoscope wants me to play).

I'm so happy Settings is 1-touch away now. I always used to choose Instrument by accident when Settings was what I really wanted. 😃

navindra I am sorry you lost the settings when switching to TestFlightThis should not happen. This seems to be a bug in the iOS operating system. I had that happen once before. I currently don't know what to do against this. I will keep looking into it.

Here's my official wishlist.

I think this will be killer features for beginner tuners:

The ability to do tunings over multiple days. For me, the only thing needed for this is to be able to detect the A440 drift of the notes that have already been tuned.
On a piano that has been already been tuned, the ability to identify the notes that have drifted the most and need to be touched up in order of priority. A user-friendly option.

Lastly:

More control over pitch detection? In my case I'm using a contact tuner and so pianoscope should disable the noise filtering algorithms and trust that what is coming in is a piano sound. At the moment it has difficulty recognizing low and high notes, although they seem to be coming in at a decent level.

If you want to measure the drift for multiple notes, you can simply use the Optimize Concert Pitch function for correction. If you only want to check a single note, there is a very handy way to do this if you have the freeze indicator activated: In the regular tuning view, play the last note on the piano at which you stopped tuning the day before. When pianoscope shows the gray freeze indicator, tap and hold it. An alert will come up which asks you if you want to adjust the concert pitch so that the frozen pitch is shifted to zero.

I doubt pianoscope's noise resilience has anything to do with it. But you could make a recording of the notes which are not reacting with the contact mic and send it to me. The easiest way for recording is to use the pre-installed app Voice Memos. Then I can take a look at what pianoscope recognises in the signal.

the beta version of the app ends tomorrow. Are you going to extend the Beta or release it in a live version? I would like to keep my settings of all icons and I don't really want to go back to the last sharp version.
Did you please look at the option to display the date when the inharmonicity was last measured? Thank you for your work.

MilanDka I will release a new beta build today. It will run for another two weeks. The upcoming build will show the last IH measurement date, but only for newly done measurements, not for existing ones.

I want to be able to tune Octave 4 on Day 1. On Day 2, I want to measure the A440 drift for Octave 4, then tune Octave 5 appropriately. On Day 3, I want to measure the A440 drift for Octave 4+5 and then tune Octave 6 appropriately. And so on.

This function does not allow me to do that, because it wants to measure specific notes that are not in the specific set I need each day.

At some point I plan to write a "tuning for dummies" article and the slow and easy approach above might be one of the strategies I put forward for a learner who can't finish a tuning in one sitting.

I've just released the new build 1255 of pianoscope v2.6 to TestFlight. It contains two new features:

The inharmonicity panel now displays the date of the last measurement when not measuring.
The pitch-raise pre-measurement panel toolbar contains a new item for choosing between different note patterns:
- A minor triad
- Minor thirds
- Major seconds
- All black keys
- All white keys.

The blue marks are all A notes. You have to measure and only tune according to them. Measuring other tones is unnecessary and especially complicated. This way you have to count the marked notes where they are.

You can never tune a piano like this. It just doesn't work. Can't. You will have each octave at a different pitch. I already wrote it once. There is a difference in tuning when you start tuning in the morning at 6 o'clock, then you stop and continue at 11 a.m. Even that is already heard a lot, let alone tuning for 7 days. Why? Because different temperature, humidity, pressure and many other less important factors.

Just forget about this procedure. You can go back to a note the next day and tune it just by ear. That's all.

I don't know if there's another way of choosing note sets across the keyboard that could make it work better?

Pianoscope already has such a function. But you can't just measure the octave you want to tune. You always have to measure the whole piano again. And even then it just won't work. It is not possible. Forget about it once and for all. If you want to tune the piano at least a little bit well and you don't have the speed and practice, find 2-3 hours of your time. Then make the whole instrument. Otherwise, even the best software in the world won't help you. You don't give a damn about physics. I tell you this as a person who tunes - he has been dealing with pianos for almost 30 years.

Yes, tuning is magic. She is not black. One example. You will have a perfectly tuned piano and decide to change 1-2 strings in the bass. The reason is not important. You loosen and take out the strings, put in new ones, and the rest of the piano is out of tune. Not a lot, but it will set things off. You probably won't perceive it, you don't have that much of a trained ear. But Pianoscope will already show you. And you were just strumming a 2-string bass. But each of them acts on the piano 60 kg.

If you have a whole piano -1Hz and you tune it one Hz higher, the pull of all strings will increase by 1 ton.

Indeed, this is exactly what I'm asking for in my other request. So after a multi-step tuning, I can do a final pass and at least confirm that the tuning is good or salvageable with a few tweaks.

I'm doing all this today, it's just a manual process and involves some guess work... I would just like some features in pianoscope to make it a more seamless workflow.

Btw, I think it's the same with unison tuning. Folks will insist you can't properly tune unisons with an ETD, yet apparently, all you need is the Freeze function on pianoscope to do it.
