tuning the high treble

pianosocope on my iPad seems to struggle with capturing a good reading in the high treble. It has a fair amount of inconsistency, making it hard to hit the target reliably. I don't seem to have this trouble in the other registers.

I think placing the iPad flat on the piano seems to help.

Any hints or tips for how to deal with tuning the high treble?

My standard recommendation is to activate the freeze indicator and to keep the device close to the string you are tuning. Does the instrument have a duplex scale?

Rick Thanks! Yes, it's an upright I'm struggling with at the moment. I more or less got it to work on the grand by doing something similar, but muting on the upright is more difficult.

Frank Illenberger I suspect that my freeze delays may not be right since it's jumping around. I'm using the default 300-500 ms. Any suggestions for how I might dial this in better?

I usually damp the undamped strings an octave below the note I am tuning and place the microphone of my iPhone fairly close to the strings being tuned. Mostly on a grand I mute with a cloth. Uprights more difficult: sometimes the cloth will fit between the damper slap rail and the strings. Or just rubber mutes. Hope this helps.

I doubt that changing the freeze times will help you in this regard. What can be very helpful when working with the freeze function in the high treble is to wait for shortly before doing the next note attack, so that the resonances of the undamped stings have time to decay.
