Yes, I think the bass has less influence on the overall pitch. Just my thinking. Will there be another beta soon? This one stops in two days.

Hello Frank! About the pitch optimization function. I think the last thing I want to do is change the pitch of the bass strings. In the bass, we have to work harder for the same change than in the treble section. Therefore, it is better to change the bass less.

So to recap: Alex wants to weigh the bass stronger in the calculation (to result in less needed pitch change) and Rick wants to weigh it less. So this looks like we need a setting here. What do you think?

Perhaps I’m wrong?? I never feel the bass strings have as much to do with the rest of the piano.

I have just released build 947 to TestFlight. It contains the following changes:

I implemented Milan's wish for an indicator which warns if one is using v1 tuning styles. It is now shown in the main tuning view behind the instrument name in the toolbar and in the tuning curve view.
I fixed the bug Rick found, namely that when optimizing concert pitch for a newly created document, it was not possible to record notes above C7. You can now do that and there is even a help text explaining this. You won't get any inharminicity measurement points for these notes, but you can record them if you want to.
I fixed a crash that occurred when trying to open the deviation chart for a fast-beating inverval.
I changed the graphical layout of the tuning view to better work with the Dynamic Island of the new iPhone 14 Pro.

I have not yet changed the weighting for the bass in the concert pitch optimization calculation, as I am still not sure whether we need a user selectable setting for it.

MilanDka Thank you, Milan. This problem does only occur on the iPhone 12 Mini which has a very wide notch. I fixed it in the latest build 950.

Don't be confused. I have just changed the version number of the current development version from v1.8 to v2.0 since this is the number I want to release it with. I think, I will start a beta test with a wider audience now. Again many thanks to you guys for giving me all this great feedback so far.

In build 957, I added a couple of things:

You can now also record partial static tunings, like only the treble or some region you are interested in. And by swiping on the name of a static tuning, you can chose Edit to re-measure or add parts at a later time.
I also made it possible to compare the deviations of hand-picked tuning intervals. You can now for example configure the chart to compare the beat rates of thirds and tenths. I have recently learned that some aural tuners use this comparison to achieve their desired stretch. To create such a chart you simply need to dive down to a tuning interval you want, swipe left on it and choose Show Deviations.

Please, can you try this style?:
In Octave Pure Style, you reduce the weight for the 3:1 twelfths to 1% and also set the 4:1 double octaves to 20% and the triple octaves to 1%, then pianoscope focuses only on the single 2:1 octaves in the treble. Then you get this result, in which the 2:1 octaves have very little beating, and the twelfths beat very strongly.

Thirds (red, 5:4), tenths (purple, 5:2), octaves (blue, 2:1) and twelfths (3:1, green).

Then the discant won't be so stretched out, there will be nice thirds and tenths. Octaves won't be beating so much.
The result is that the tuning won't be so aggressive, but rather warm.

Well, that changes the bass a little bit. There it's good to switch it back to Pure Octave without modification.
And how do you feel about the treble? Is it comfortable or just only OK?

Of course, others can try it too. I am interested in your opinion.
