TestFlight beta of pianoscope 2.6

I've just released the new build 1255 of pianoscope v2.6 to TestFlight. It contains two new features:

The inharmonicity panel now displays the date of the last measurement when not measuring.
The pitch-raise pre-measurement panel toolbar contains a new item for choosing between different note patterns:
- A minor triad
- Minor thirds
- Major seconds
- All black keys
- All white keys.

The blue marks are all A notes. You have to measure and only tune according to them. Measuring other tones is unnecessary and especially complicated. This way you have to count the marked notes where they are.

I want to be able to tune Octave 4 on Day 1. On Day 2, I want to measure the A440 drift for Octave 4, then tune Octave 5 appropriately. On Day 3, I want to measure the A440 drift for Octave 4+5 and then tune Octave 6 appropriately. And so on.

This function does not allow me to do that, because it wants to measure specific notes that are not in the specific set I need each day.

At some point I plan to write a "tuning for dummies" article and the slow and easy approach above might be one of the strategies I put forward for a learner who can't finish a tuning in one sitting.

You can never tune a piano like this. It just doesn't work. Can't. You will have each octave at a different pitch. I already wrote it once. There is a difference in tuning when you start tuning in the morning at 6 o'clock, then you stop and continue at 11 a.m. Even that is already heard a lot, let alone tuning for 7 days. Why? Because different temperature, humidity, pressure and many other less important factors.

Just forget about this procedure. You can go back to a note the next day and tune it just by ear. That's all.

I don't know if there's another way of choosing note sets across the keyboard that could make it work better?

Pianoscope already has such a function. But you can't just measure the octave you want to tune. You always have to measure the whole piano again. And even then it just won't work. It is not possible. Forget about it once and for all. If you want to tune the piano at least a little bit well and you don't have the speed and practice, find 2-3 hours of your time. Then make the whole instrument. Otherwise, even the best software in the world won't help you. You don't give a damn about physics. I tell you this as a person who tunes - he has been dealing with pianos for almost 30 years.

Yes, tuning is magic. She is not black. One example. You will have a perfectly tuned piano and decide to change 1-2 strings in the bass. The reason is not important. You loosen and take out the strings, put in new ones, and the rest of the piano is out of tune. Not a lot, but it will set things off. You probably won't perceive it, you don't have that much of a trained ear. But Pianoscope will already show you. And you were just strumming a 2-string bass. But each of them acts on the piano 60 kg.

If you have a whole piano -1Hz and you tune it one Hz higher, the pull of all strings will increase by 1 ton.

Indeed, this is exactly what I'm asking for in my other request. So after a multi-step tuning, I can do a final pass and at least confirm that the tuning is good or salvageable with a few tweaks.

I'm doing all this today, it's just a manual process and involves some guess work... I would just like some features in pianoscope to make it a more seamless workflow.

Btw, I think it's the same with unison tuning. Folks will insist you can't properly tune unisons with an ETD, yet apparently, all you need is the Freeze function on pianoscope to do it.

The beta stopped today. I could no longer measure the IH. After restarting the app, it no longer has a license and I had to reinstall it.

It will always be out of tune. Is it so hard to understand? No algorithm can calculate it. All piano tuning apps have trouble tuning the piano correctly in normal time (there's always something that's miscalculated), let alone like this.
I don't want to be rude or unpleasant. But what you're asking just doesn't work.
Even Pianoscope makes mistakes - for example, it puts the C3-C4 area too low (Not much, like 0.1-0,2 cents), the C#4 tone too high (piano terminology). He probably doesn't listen to big thirds in combination with tens. But you don't know that. Despite this, I consider Pianoscope to be the best software. It's just a little thing.

Other programs give an absurdly high bass line or, on the contrary, the narrowest 6 tones too low.
Most programs put everything from B4 too high and the end of the treble extremely high. And I will repeat myself again. You don't know it. You have no choice because you don't know what to listen to.
So even if you tuned the piano over the course of 7 days - as you request, it just won't tune. It is not possible.

A comparison occurred to me. We have a performer in the Czech Republic who sings about how someone works in a Cadillac factory and takes home a part of that car every day. It has been doing this for many years. One day he will put all this together in a car and hit the road. He gets stopped by the police and looks at the car a lot. And they ask about the year of manufacture. The answer is 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, .............. 😂

Right now it takes me 3 hours to tune the whole piano in one sitting. That's what I would do before a recording.

Otherwise, I'll do it a little at a time over a weekend until I get better/faster.

Sorry to have been so late commenting on this beta. I am finding it very good and like the new features. On Wednesday I did a tuning for a concert which included a pitch lower on an 1898 Bechstein grand for a well known British pianist, Clare Hammond. The piano sounded good and she enjoyed performing on it. Well done Frank.

Rick When you measure the current pitches when preparing a pitch-raise, you have to make a compromise between the time it takes to measure the notes and the precision of the pitch measurement: The more notes you record the better pianoscope can predict the plate movement. In principle you can measure any amount or pattern of notes you want. Traditionally, I suggested to play the notes of the A minor triad. But for unevenly out-of-tune pianos, it can make sense to measure more notes, like with minor thirds or major seconds. When the piano is more than 50 cents flat, pianoscope cannot perform automatic note detection. To save you work from having to manually select every note you want to record on the on-screen keyboard, I now provide these default patterns with which pianoscope prompts you to play notes.
If you before used to start a pitch-raise via the inharmonicity measurement of the full scale, not much changes. It is mainly meant for having a good way to start a coarse tuning in the pitch-raise function with a choice of multiple note patterns. Does this make sense?
